A SUPERB performance from Danial Evans was the catalyst behind Llandudno’s nine-wicket home win over Chirk.

The all-rounder was at his brilliant best with both bat and ball to lead the North Wales Cricket League Premier Division side to success, and they now occupy seventh position ahead of their clash with surprise package Pwllheli at The Oval on Saturday.

Evans wasted no time in making an impact with the new ball by removing Mark Shaw (4), Chris Pritchard (6) and Wynn Jones (2) in quick succession, and he added to his collection late on with the wicket of Samuel Davies (5) to end a brilliant 12-over spell with figures of 4-16.

Visiting skipper Andrew Swarbrick and Nicholas Flack provided stern resistance to put on 83 for the fourth wicket, making 70 and 42 respectively before they were ousted by Luke Sumner and Andrew Christian.

This proved to be a turning point in the tie, and Sumner also took the scalp of Shaun Walker for ten as the away side set a target of 165-9 from their 50 overs at the crease.

Despite losing opener Matthew Jones early on when he was caught by James Carter off a Jones delivery for 26, the partnership of Evans and recent signing Keegan Armstrong ensured the hosts reached their target with minimal fuss.

Both finished unbeaten on the day after a series of stylish strokes, with Armstrong ending on 45 not out and Evans securing 78 as a result of his sensational contribution to his side’s cause as they reached their required total after 32 overs.

Evans has been the shining light of the Lions’ season to date, averaging 40 with the bat and 14.4 per wicket.
