COLWYN Bay endured a difficult weekend as they fell to a league and cup defeat in consecutive days.

The Liverpool and District Cricket League Premier Division side were on the wrong end of a ten-wicket reverse at Bootle on Saturday, before falling to an 86-run loss at New Brighton in the Ray Digman Cup.

Sion Morris’ side will look to bounce back at the first opportunity this Saturday when they host New Brighton at Penrhyn Avenue on Saturday.

Bay mustered just 76 all out from their league outing after a dismal run of form with the bat, with only Gareth Goodson (19), Zack Gidlow (17), Paul Jenkins (11) and George Johansen (10) making it into double figures throughout the innings.

Williams Purser turned in a sensational spell of bowling for the hosts, claiming no fewer than seven wickets for the loss of just 39 runs.

The away side did not manage to claim a single wicket as the opening pair of Will Hale and Vishal Tripathi both ending the day unbeaten on 57 and 21 respectively.

Things were not much better on Sunday as a knock of 90 from New Brighton batsman Louis Botes, together with notable scores from Tom Horrocks (38) and Ashraf Nawab (33), giving them a total of 291-9 from their 45 overs.

Overseas star Dimeth Hewathanthree ended the day with figures of 3-39, with Jamie Moorhouse and Ryan Holtby claiming two wickets apiece.

Hewathanthree replicated his form with the bat and made a classy 54 to aide his sides cause, but despite a contribution of 41 from Holtby it was not enough as the visitors fell narrowly short and recorded 205 all out in reply.

Bay’s second unit also had nothing to show from their efforts at home against Liverpool, where they suffered a four-wicket defeat.
