LLANDUDNO got their championship challenge back on track with an eye-catching eight-wicket triumph at in-form Denbigh.

The 2016 champions made light work of their opponents thanks to a stunning display with both bat and ball, and the result leaves Jack Rimmington’s side in third spot as they prepare to welcome Connah’s Quay to The Oval on Saturday.

The home side made a promising start to their time at the crease until John Lee Rowlands was run out by Rhydian Morgan after making a promising 20.

Rimmington struck twice in quick succession soon after when he disposed of skipper Harrison Jones and Sam Lewis for five and four respectively, while Tom Thornton also got in on the act with the valuable scalps of Tom Scrimshaw (5), Danny Nixon (1) and Joe Lewis (1) on his way to figures of 3-24 from ten overs.

One constant throughout the innings was opener Gerallt Lyall, who was removed by Rimmington at a pivotal moment on 53, taking the captain’s tally to 3-53 as the hosts set a target of 143 all out.

Despite losing talented opener Danial Evans early on when he was clean bowled by Jack Griffiths for 15, a superb partnership from Matthew Jones and Keegan Armstrong ensured the visitors reached their target with minimal fuss against a dangerous Denbigh bowling attack.

Jones was trapped lbw by Lewis after making 51, with Armstrong ending a wonderful knock unbeaten on 61 which included no fewer than nine boundaries.

Sam Rimmington also saw the game out on 25 not out as the away side secured a morale boosting success after 36 overs at the crease.

The Lions’ second unit were in dominant form during their 148-run win at Caernarfon, with skipper Lewis Jones hitting 97 and Luke Sumner taking seven wickets for the loss of just six runs.
