CONWY remain rooted to the North Wales Cricket League Division One basement after a 97-run home defeat at the hands of Llay Welfare.

The visitors begun their time at the crease strongly thanks to a knock of 28 from Jacob Roberts, while fellow opener was in mesmerising form before he was eventually stumped by Graham Heath off a Stan Senior strike after making 80.

Ethan Griffiths was another in good form until he was run out by Jonathan Davies five short of his half century, and the same man was on hand to aide his side’s cause with the wickets of Jack Parry and captain Nathan Humphreys for a pair of ducks.

Wicketkeeper John Lloyd’s unbeaten 27 was another notable contribution as the away side ended their 40 overs on 201-4, with Davies the pick of the home bowlers with figures of 2-20.

Things did not begin well for the hosts as the opening pair of Robert Gater (1) and Geraint Hughes (0) were both out cheaply, and Evan Williams did not fare much better when he was dismissed by Tom Crewe after maiing 11.

The wickets continued to tumble as Lewis Jones (9), David Wilkinson (11) and Heath (20) all failed to build on promising starts, and despite a top score of 35 from Davies it was not enough as Conwy mustered 104-9 in reply.

Things do not get any easier for the struggling side next Saturday when they entertain league leaders Bethesda.
