LLANDUDNO Junction are still searching for their first Huws Gray Alliance victory of the season after falling to a narrow 1-0 home loss to Holyhead Hotspur.

The Railwaymen once again had nothing to show for a spirited display in their fight against the drop, and they currently sit bottom of the standings and five points away from safety ahead of their difficult looking trip to Porthmadog on Saturday (2.30pm).

The home side made a strong start and almost went ahead on two minutes when striker Dean Seager broke clear, but his effort sailed narrowly over the bar.

This spurred the Holy Islanders into life and they were guilty of wasting a host of opportunities throughout the first period, with Dean Garmey, Mike Kelly and Mel McGinness failing to convert in quick succession.

Junction stopper Keighan Jones was proving to be a tough nut to crack, and he was at his best to deny Alex Jones and Dewi Thomas, and he also produced a stunning stop to deny Kelly and send the contest into the break all square.

After the interval saw the visitors continue to ask significant questions of the home rearguard, with McGinness, John Littlemore and Ryan Taylor missing chances during another dominant spell.

Bryan Roberts came closest for the hosts on 63 minutes when his strike was diverted by Paul Pritchard, but they suffered a crucial blow on 70 minutes when they were reduced to ten men after Luke Fountain was shown a red card.

The away side wasted no time in taking advantage of their superiority and the defining moment arrived on 80 minutes when Spurs talisman McGinness rose highest to glance a header past Jones to net the only goal of the tie.

Despite their best efforts Iain Bennett’s men were unable to find a leveller and suffered their 12th second tier defeat in 15 contests.
