HOLYHEAD Hotspur’s poor run of Huws Gray Alliance results continued with a 3-2 home reverse to Penrhyncoch.

The Holy Islanders were unable to capitalise on a good start and were undone by discipline problems once again in the defeat, and Campbell Harrison’s side will look to get their stuttering season back on track when they entertain Caersws on Saturday (2.30pm).

Despite the eventual result, it was the home side who started the brighter and took the lead after just four minutes when a surging run and cross from Mel McGinness was diverted into his own net by Cledan Davies.

John Littemore almost doubled their advantage on nine minutes when he flashed a header wide following a Dan McGinness long throw, while Jamie McDaid spurned another good chance when his effort was hacked off the line by John Folin.

They were made to pay for their inefficiency in front of goal on 35 minutes when Jon Evans rounded Spurs’ stopper Paul Pritchard to slot home and level proceedings, but the hosts responded well and seized the initiative once again on 42 when Littlemore latched on to a Mel McGinness through ball to fire home.

This lead proved to be short-lived as the visitors restored parity to the scoreline on 44 minutes when Evans took advantage of some hesitant defending to notch his brace.

After the interval saw Pen take control of proceedings in the early exchanges with Eilian Evans forcing a good stop from Pritchard, but they took the lead for the first time in the contest on 59 minutes when a long ball fell at the feet of Steffan Davies, who struck a superb effort into the net.

The hosts' task was made more difficult with a contentious red card in the closing stages, which hampered their ability to find an equaliser for the remainder of the clash.
