HOLYHEAD Hotspur closed out the Huws Gray Alliance season with a thumping 4-1 win over Caersws.

The Holy Islanders ended a run of eight straight league defeats to ensure they finished on a high, despite manager Campbell Harrison missing a number of key individuals for their final encounter.

The Bluebirds managed to get their noses in front early on seven minutes when Steve Blenkinsop converted past Paul Pritchard from the penalty spot after Craig Harris had been felled in the box.

Spurs responded well to the setback and missed a pair of opportunities on 21 and 23 minutes when the talented duo of Alex Boss and Tomos Clarke failed to find the target after neat build-up play.

They were finally rewarded for their improved play after 29 minutes when striker John Littlemore reacted first to a looping cross before finding the far corner to level proceedings.

Jamie McDaid, Boss and Littlemore all spurned good chances during the remainder of the first period to ensure both sides had all to play for at the break, while Pritchard pulled off two sensational stops to deny Rhydain Davies and Harris shortly after the interval.

The turning points arrived on 65 minutes when Littlemore went down in the area, and the assistant referee overruled the man in the middle after he initially waved off the incident.

Littlemore dusted himself down and slotted home the resulting penalty to put the home side ahead for the first time in the contest, and Clarke doubled their advantage on 75 minutes when he found the net after a stunning delivery from Kenleigh Owen.

Harrison’s men rounded off the scoring on 79 minutes through an unfortunate own goal from Ryan Davies to give them a win to end on a high.
