HOLYHEAD Hotspur manager Campbell has announced his departure from the club.

The Holy Islanders confirmed the news on Tuesday, May 15, with the boss stepping down after five seasons at the helm of the Huws Gray Alliance side.

A club statement, said: “The club wish to express extreme gratitude to the popular team boss for the great service he has given to the in what has been his second spell at Hotspur “In that time along with assistant manager Darren Garmey the Holy Islanders have become one of the most respected teams in a league which has developed into its most competitive in recent seasons since the formation of the Welsh pyramid second tier competition in 1990.

“Having to operate within a tight budget for financial reasons has often proved difficult in recruiting players from outside the area to augment the talented locals in the side, but has invariably finished in the top half of the league table, and it is only in the latter season that Holyhead Hotspur has ended in a lowly position.”

Harrison has left the role to concentrate more on family and his position as Headmaster of St Gerard’s School in Bangor.

After assembling a formidable looking squad last summer, Spurs endured a season of underachievement after a poor end to the campaign which saw them win just one of their last nine contests, losing eight straight.

The highlight of his time in charge was their sensational run in the JD Welsh Cup two seasons’ ago, which saw the club achieve a landmark victory over Welsh Premier League side Bangor City on a historic night His first spell with the Blue and Whites saw them finish runners-up behind Bala Town in 2009, while he reached the Huws Gray Cup final on two occasions.

Harrison has also enjoyed success with Porthmadog and Cemaes Bay in previous years and hopes to stay involved at The New Stadium in some capacity in the future.
