LLANDUDNO Junction left it until their final game to pick up their first win of the Huws Gray Alliance season on an emotional day at FC Queens Park.

The Railwaymen managed to dig deep and secure a 3-2 triumph against their fellow relegated side, who paid tribute to long-serving manager Martin Ford following his death earlier this month.

A crowd of 350 attended the game to pay their respects to Ford, but the away side managed to take the lead in the first period when Sean McCaffrey found the net on 38 minutes.

This was met by a swift response from the hosts, who managed to level matters after 38 minutes when a neat passage of play saw Nicky Chesters finish well.

After the break saw Park take the lead for the first time in the contest on 83 minutes with a well-taken effort, but his joy proved to be short lived as he was shown a second yellow card and subsequently sent off for removing his shirt during the goal celebrations.

They were made to pay for this in the closing stages when Jack Nettleton hit an equaliser in the closing stages, and things got even better for Junction late on when the same player was on hand to notch his second of the game and confirm their first win at the 28th time of asking.

Park physio Mark Davies, who took charge of the hosts for the occasion, also revealed that Llandudno Junction presented a collection in memory of Ford prior to the contest.

He said: “It was just unbelievable to be honest. We had a lot of people helping us out with collection boxes and so many people donated generously to Martin’s family.

“The Llandudno captain came up to me with an envelope after they’d run their own collection for him - it was a great gesture.

“It was a terrific game of football too, even if we didn’t get the win we wanted. Everyone put in a performance and I’m so proud of all the players and the fans who played their part in the day too.”
