LLANDUDNO have begun the January transfer window by significantly boosting their squad as the club looks to return to the top six after narrowly missing out last term.

The JD Welsh Premier League side have added four new and familiar faces to the set-up ahead of a crucial run of fixtures, and sports reporter Dean Jones runs the rule over the signings.

Matty Williams:

There are not many forwards operating in the Welsh pyramid with a better CV than Williams, who was part of the all-conquering championship winnings sides of The New Saints for the best part of a decade.

The former Manchester United trainee has football league experience with Notts County and has also enjoyed a successful stint with Connah’s Quay Nomads, and it will be interesting to see what he can bring on the pitch having finally registered following his move to the Giant Hospitality Stadium in an assistant manager role.

His experience will be invaluable during a critical time of the season, and Williams’ ability to create space and eye for goal will be a huge boost to a squad that have found goals hard to come by at times during the campaign.

Marc Evans:

Evans is no stranger to the Tudno faithful having played a significant part in their Huws Gray Alliance title winning campaign, where he finished as top scorer during a blistering run of form.

He re-joins the club following a record-breaking spell with New Zealand side Melville United, where he surpassed a long-standing goalscoring feat and became a fan favourite in the Southern hemisphere.

If can reproduce anything like this form for Tudno during the second half of the season then it will prove to be a shrewd move from Williams, and the abundance of creative influences operating within the squad are sure to bring plenty of chances Evans’ way providing he hits the ground running.

Wes Baynes:

Another eye-catching signing has been former Airbus Broughton star Baynes, who has moved back up to the top flight after the Wingmakers have endured a season of inconsistencies.

Baynes is a versatile player that can operate in either defence or midfield if called upon, and he comes with plenty of experience having turned out for high-profile clubs such as Wrexham, Chester, Colwyn Bay and Connah’s Quay.

There is no doubt that Baynes will offer plenty to the Tudno squad and will add extra depth following the recent injury to Ryan Edwards, and on his day he is still widely regarded as one of the better performers in the region.

Iwan Williams:

While the move to register himself may appear drastic, it makes complete sense as Williams himself has stated that he will only be deployed in emergency purposes.

He enjoyed a fine playing career having captained the club where he currently manages, and he did something similar with his former club Caernarfon Town.

By his own admission Williams has been showing the squad a thing or two during training, so the likes of Danny Hughes may want to start looking over their shoulder!
