COLWYN Bay moved into the Evo-stik North top eight thanks to a resounding 4-0 home win over Brighouse Town.

The Seagulls turned in one of their most efficient performances of the campaign to enhance their playoff chances, and they face a big week of action in pursuit of promotion which begins on Tuesday at Ramsbottom Town.

Manager Alan Morgan, said: “It wasn’t the prettiest of games and was a bit scrappy, but at the end of the day it is a good win for us and I’ll take that.

“Unfortunately we’ve got a few knocks which we will need to check on for Tuesday.

“Gaz Grant is struggling with what could be a bit of concussion and we’ll have to see how he is, while Tom McCready took quite a whack and we had to take Elliot (Rokka) off because he was tightening up a bit – but I was pleased with Billy (Sass-Davies) when he came on and it meant we were able to give Jack Hindle some good minutes from the bench as well.”

After a scrappy opening to proceedings the home side broke the deadlock on 28 minutes when Tom McCready fed Astley Mullholland, and the striker slotted home with ease to put Bay ahead.

Things got event better soon after when a defensive mix-up left Danny Andrews with the simple task of firing into an empty net on 42 minutes to double their advantage.

After the break saw the home side wrap up the points on 49 minutes when Rokka finished off a fine team move involving Andrews and Mullholland for their third.

Mullholland rounded off the scoring on 59 minutes when he latched on to a Louis Barnes through ball to finish well for his 16th goal of the season, and they managed to gain a clean sheet from the contest thanks to an outstanding spot kick save from Matt Cooper to deny Dan Grimshaw.

The result moves Colwyn Bay up to eighth, three points behind sixth-placed Trafford with four games in hand and one behind Tadcaster with one game in hand.
