COLWYN Bay are primed for an Evo-stik North playoff spot after enjoying a new lease of life under Alan Morgan.

The former Llandudno manager has been a breath of fresh air for the stagnating Seagulls, who will be keen to bring some pride back to the club following a number of disappointing seasons since the departure of Frank Sinclair.

Things have not been easy for Bay in the English pyramid, but there have been signs of life in recent weeks that have left them within touching distance of the top six with games in hand on the majority of their rivals.

A comfortable 4-0 home success over Brighouse Town was further proof of just how much the progressing under the leadership of Morgan, with the influence of assistant Craig Hogg and coach Neil Coverley not to be underestimated.

The backroom duo have been working incredibly hard behind the scenes with current players, while also focusing on the recruitment side to bring in loan signings Billy Sass Davies and Tom McCready.

In particular, McCready has been a hugely influential figure thanks to his engine and work ethic, while Sass Davies will be looking to soften the blow caused by the loss of defender of Dan Collins, who has returned to Australia.

It is not going to be easy to break into the playoff places during the run-in, and much will depend on the form of red-hot striker Astley Mullholland as to how far they can actually surge up the table.

The in-form forward has been at his ruthless best in recent weeks, and he has now contributed an outstanding 16 goals in what has been a standout campaign to date.

Another who will be crucial during the run-in is Elliot Rokka, who is capable of unlocking a defence at any given opportunity and has been in sensational form of late.

The same can be said of full-back Louis Barnes, squad mainstay Gaz Grant and the ultra-consistent Danny Andrews, while keeper Matt Cooper has looked assured during their good run which is a considerable platform to build on.

The games will now be coming thick and fast for the promotion hopefuls, and there can be no margin for error given the situation they found themselves in following an indifferent start to the campaign.

With Droylsden, Tadcaster Albion, Ossett Town, Scarborough Athletic, Colne and Skelmersdale United in their immediate future, it represent a wonderful opportunity for Morgan’s men to pick up more points and gain further momentum as they look to achieve their overall target.

Whether that will be enough when it is all said and done remains to be seen.
