COLWYN Bay suffered a blow to their Evo-stik North playoff hopes with a heavy 4-0 reverse at Colne.

The Seagulls were on the end of their heaviest league defeat in more than a year after failing to build on their impressive success at Scarborough Athletic last weekend, and Alan Morgan’s side will look to get back to winning ways on Saturday when they host Skelmersdale United (3pm).

Morgan, said: “Not good enough. We were a million miles away from how we were at Scarborough, where we worked hard a battled for 90 minutes.

“Colne were brighter, sharper and quicker than us; they worked hard and won the battles.

“It’s a big wake-up call. It’s up to me now and we’ve got to make changes. I’m not having players doing well one minute and not the next. Some of them have to realise they have to do better.

“Even at 2-0 down at half-time we had chances in the first eight minutes of the second half to be level at 2-2 and then it’s a different game – but you have to take your chances.”

The home side were on the front foot from the outset and they went ahead on 27 minutes when Alex Curran found the net, and Bay were dealt another blow on 43 when Harry Pratt pounced to double their advantage.

Jack Hindle and Elliot Rokka , who was playing his last game before returning to Tranmere Rovers, both spurned their best chances of the period, and despite an improved performance after the break they conceded a third on 76 minutes when a quick breakaway resulted in Oliver Crankshaw finishing well.

The introduction of Danny Bartle, new signing Liam Dawson and Jamie Rainford from the bench made little difference and Colne added a fourth goal in the final minute through top scorer Alex Curran.

Bay’s misery was compounded when Astley Mulholland failed to convert from the spot, and the defeat sees them remain five points behind the playoff places with games in hand on the majority of their rivals.
