LLANDUDNO Amateurs moved back to the Vale of Clwyd and Conwy Division One summit thanks to a 3-1 victory over Llandyrnog United Reserves.

The promotion chasers are now one point ahead of long-time rivals Llandudno Athletic in their quest for the title with a game in hand that could prove to be telling at the end of the campaign.

Despite the eventual result it was the away side that took an early advantage when Kevin Rickard hit the target on 25 minutes after a prolonged period of possession.

Jimmy McInally’s side held this advantage heading into the interval, but the hosts managed to level proceedings soon after the restart thanks to a Joseph Jones effort on 47 minutes.

Things got even better for the home side soon after when Martin Hughes finished well on 56 minutes, and another crucial win was sealed a minute from time when Jones notched his second of the afternoon to double their advantage.

Llandudno Athletic advanced to the REM Jones Cup third round with a thrilling 4-3 home success of Llanrwst United Reserves in the only other game to survive the adverse weather conditons.

Joe Roberts got the hosts off to a flyer on ten minutes, but they were pegged back on 13 through an unfortunate own goal.

Roberts and Jordan Thomas exchanged goals on 20 and 28 minutes during an end-to-end period of the tie, with Danny Talbot putting Athletic ahead for a third time with a quick-fire double before the break to give them a two-goal cushion.

The Rwsters ensured a nervy ending to proceedings on 72 minutes when Gwyn Jones reduced the arrears, but the home side weathered the storm in the closing stages to advance.
