COLWYN Bay suffered a disappointing loss in their bid for an Evo-stik North playoff berth as they fell to a 1-0 reverse at Glossop North End.

The Seagulls were undone by another set-piece goal and had two strong penalty shouts waved off in the loss, which leaves them seven points behind Trafford with three games in hand ahead of their home clash with Prescot Cables on Monday (3pm).

Manager Alan Morgan, said: “We keep giving away poor goals, which is costing us big time and costing us points. Again, it is from a corner and we need to get that sorted.

“We had good possession first half and had chances, but we keep shooting ourselves by giving stupid goals away.

“We need to score the first goal because when we go a goal down we want to go long instead of passing it, keeping possession and building pressure.”

“The second one is a definite pen; most of the crowd thought so, their bench thought so and I am told the video footage shows it was as well; but I went in to the referee afterwards and he stands by his decision, so what can you do?”

Astley Mullholland went close for the visitors in the first half when his effort was saved by Russ Sanders, while Liam Dawson received a booking for protesting a spot kick shout soon after.

The hosts got their crucial goal on 51 minutes when a corner ricochet into the path of Courtney Meppen-Walter, who prodded home from close range.

Bay found it difficult to create sustained periods of possession following the setback, but they had another penalty shout waved off late on when substitute Danny Bartle was felled in the box, but again their appeals were denied to confirm the disappointing result.
