VALE of Clwyd and Conwy Football League chairman Bryan Roberts has agreed to stay on in his role after an emergency committee meeting.

The dispute arose due to the rearrangement of some midweek fixtures that has left some clubs operating within the two divisions unhappy, causing Mr Roberts to tender his resignation with immediate effect earlier this week.

After a huge campaign for him to reconsider his position, Mr Roberts has confirmed that he will now stay on until the league’s Annual General Meeting to be held later this year, and possibly beyond that date if all parties agree.

He said: “An emergency executive committee meeting of the league took place last night at Abergele.

“After much heartfelt discussion I will continue as Chairman of the league until the AGM. I am overwhelmed at the comments expressed and emails sent to me.”

Fixtures throughout the North Wales region across all levels have been decimated by an unprecedented amount of postponements, which has left some teams with the prospect of playing three to four games a week between now and the end of the season.

Leon Field, joint-manager at Premier Division leaders Kinmel Bay, said: “For me Bryan has been working wonders for this league and I believe it is up there with the best of them with how its run.

“We even said that at the last meeting, this has been down to Bryan and his team to implement the way it’s run. Bryan like the rest of us has a family and should be sitting back relaxing as a retired gentlemen, but instead he’s working all the time to get the league to a conclusion.

“It’s been frustrating with the lack of games being played but that’s not down to Bryan he can’t stop the weather from causing mayhem.”
