LLANDUDNO narrowly missed out on a top six JD Welsh Premier League berth after they were held 0-0 at Cefn Druids.

Iwan Williams’ side needed to win at The Rock to leapfrog the Ancients in the standings, but things did not fall their way and they will now push for a Europa League playoff spot during the second half of the campaign.

The Tudno boss, said: “We gave it everything. That’s all you can ask for.

“Players are devastated but plenty left to play for. Proud of the effort and endeavour. So many positives to take forward.

“Thanks to the Llandudno supporters for their support until the very end.”

A nervy opening to proceedings brought little in the way of chances, with Marc Williams’ header forcing a comfortable save from Michael Jones early on.

Another opportunity presented itself on 12 minutes when Wes Baynes fired over after good work from Toby Jones, while Marc Evans missed a pair of great chances on 28 but crucially was unable to put the ball in the net.

The away side were now on top and they came within a whisker of opening their account on the half hour mark when Jones fed Danny Hughes, but the midfielder’s effort struck the crossbar.

Huw Griffiths’ men went agonisingly themselves soon after when former Tudno striker Lewis Buckley hit the post following a quick break, while at the other end Baynes found the roof of the net with a looping effort.

After the break saw the visitors suffer a blow as skipper Tom Dix was sent off for a second bookable offence, and this took the wind out of their sails for the majority of the second period due to their man inferiority.

They did have a great chance late on which Danny Shaw headed wide with the goal gaping to ensure that both sides went home with a share of the spoils.
