LLANDUDNO showed their fighting qualities in the face of adversity to triumph over Carmarthen Town and boost their chances of a Europa League playoff spot in the process.

Their victory was a poignant one, with manager Iwan Williams taking his place in the dugout just days after the sad death of his mother.

His side might have left it late but they did not let him down, and after speaking about overcoming difficulties before the contest Tudno showed an enormous amount of determination while coming up with the necessary quality to get the job done.

The acquisition of Matty Williams was a very astute one by the boss, and the forward was at his brilliant best on Saturday to lead his team to victory.

He has achieved it all in the Welsh pyramid and his experience during the run-in from a coaching and playing perspective is going to be critical, as Williams is rarely wasteful in possession and is capable of finding space to create chances on a consistent basis.

They will need all of the fight shown against the Old Gold against seventh placed rivals Barry Town United next weekend in a critical clash between two sides separated by just two points after 25 league games.

It promises to be very tight in the race for a playoff spot and you could not realistically rule out anybody besides the bottom two at the present time, so there will be no margin for error in their trip to South Wales against a United side that are in good form following their success at Newtown.

What contribution midfielder Jay Gibbs can make when he returns from suspension remains to be seen, but the likes of Toby Jones and top scorer Marc Williams are going to be relied upon heavily during the run-in and hopefully this will be enough to give them the finish they require.

Their new expansive style in Phase Two is bringing with it plenty of goals, but they will need to sure things up from a defensive standpoint on their travels if they want to get a result against one of the league's surprise packages this term.

With so many personnel changes during the January transfer window it was going to take some time to gel, and this summer will be a very important one for Williams as he continues to recruit players who fit his way of thinking.

Prestatyn Town, Newtown, Aberystwyth Town and Carmarthen Town await Tudno in the coming weeks, and they are scheduled to clash with the Robins in JD Welsh Cup action in what could be another route into Europe if they manage to get their hands on the prestigious trophy.

Williams is a well-respected figure around the club and it is clear that he has got all the squad playing for him almost instantly, and if they continue to show the same will and determination for their remaining fixtures, then character and quality might be enough for them to achieve their goals.
