A JUNIOR football team had an unforgettable experience at one of the most historic clubs in the country recently.

The Llandudno U13 side travelled to the home of SkyBet League One leaders Blackburn Rovers last month, which stemmed from a friendship between junior chairman and coach Mike Smith and club legend David Dunn.

Mr Smith is also an ambassador for Wales and Ireland for The Offside Trust, a child safeguarding charity that is helping those who have been victims of abuse and are working to improve measures so such issues are prevented in the future.

During their visit, the team took part in a fixture against the U13 Rovers side, and performed well against high quality opposition, which maintained its Category One Academy status despite suffering relegation to the third tier last season.

They then had the opportunity to take in the Blackburn versus Oldham Athletic clash later on in the day, which saw the home side recover a two-goal deficit in the second half to salvage a 2-2 draw against the Latics.

This is the latest in a series of high-profile trips for the group, who have played tournaments at Disneyland Paris, in addition to Dublin, the Isle of Wight and Skegness.

The group were also scheduled to visit SkyBet Championship leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers on March 3 for a similar experience, but were forced to turn back after their clash against Reading was postponed due to the adverse weather conditions.

While the visit is set to be scheduled, Mr Smith stated that the club may not be able to afford the coach fare for the trip, which cost £500 for the cancelled trip to the Midlands.
