LLANDUDNO were unable to capitalise on a positive start as they fell to a 3-2 loss at Newtown.

Iwan Williams’ side could not hold on to a half-time lead and had nothing to show for their efforts, and they will look to finally retain their JD Welsh Premier League status for next season this Saturday when they host Aberystwyth Town (2.30pm).

The away side got off to the best possible start and went ahead on five minutes when recent signing from Caernarfon Town Jay Gibbs opened his account for the club with a well-taken effort.

Chris Hughes’ men began to turn the screw after conceding and levelled matters on 16 minutes when Ryan Sears turned the ball over the line from close range.

Tudno regained their advantage midway through the half and once again it was midfield playmaker Gibbs who smashed home a rebound after a Toby Jones header from a Wes Baynes free-kick was only parried.

After the interval saw the Robins get back on level terms almost immediately following the restart when Ethan Jones latched on to a long ball to steer home, and they got their noses in front for the first time in the contest on 69 when Nick Rushton converted from the penalty spot.

This proved to be a telling blow in terms of the eventual result, and despite their best efforts Williams’ side were unable to create a chance of note in the closing stages which left them on the wrong end of a narrow loss, which was their fifth loss in seven contests.

Next up for Tudno are Nev Powell’s Aberystwyth, who sit just two points behind them in the standings and come into the game on the back of a 2-0 home loss to Barry Town United.
