LLANDUDNO striker and top scorer Marc Williams has announced his release.

Although the bold move has not yet been officially announced by the club, the 29-year-old confirmed the news with a message on social media account Twitter on Sunday evening.

The shock news comes after a meeting with manager Iwan Williams, assistant Matty Williams and the Tudno board to discuss plans for the squad and the finances available for the 2018/19 season.

He said: “I would like to thank Llandudno supporters, players and Llandudno FC staff for an amazing three years.

“Appreciate the support and really proud of my achievements, good luck for next season.”

The former Welsh under-21 international made a huge impact when signing for the Giant Hospitality Stadium side under Alan Morgan, and was one of the main contributing factors behind their debut success in the JD Welsh Premier League.

Williams turned in a number of exceptional performances and averaged a goal every other game, which was enough to give Tudno a third placed finish and see the striker named WPL Player of the Year.

The forward has been operating in a deeper role under new boss Iwan Williams, who has deemed the ex-Colwyn Bay skipper surplus to requirements after a three-year spell and 27 goals in 80 starts.

Llandudno close out their top-flight campaign this Friday when they make the trip to relegated Prestatyn Town ahead of what is sure to be a hugely important summer for everyone associated with the club.

Defender Mike Williams, brother of Marc, recently underwent surgery to fix a problem that ended his season, and the former professional’s future is also in doubt due to him being one of the top earners within the Tudno squad.
