THERE are big changes coming at Llandudno Football Club this summer as manager Iwan Williams gears up for his first full season at the helm.

The former Caernarfon Town boss took over from Alan Morgan in November and missed out on a top six berth and a Europa League playoff place after a difficult end to the JD Welsh Premier League season, but the vital part is that Tudno remain in the top flight and he can now full stamp his mark on the squad.

While this season may feel as if it has been a step backwards for the club, it is not easy for a new manager to come in and install his ethos without a summer of planning and Williams has always said he wants to be judged on the next year in terms of his position.

He has already begun to make significant moves by releasing the influential duo of Marc and Mike Williams, who have both been huge contributing factors behind them firmly establishing themselves as a top-flight force over the last three years.

Their quality and experience will be hard to replace, and Williams and his backroom staff must get their replacements right to give them the best possible chance of improving next term.

One huge bonus to everyone at the Giant Hospitality Stadium is the commitment from midfield talisman Danny Hughes, who was once again one of the standout Tudno performers throughout the campaign and his influence on-and-off the pitch cannot be underestimated.

The manager has shown his tactical versatility in two stages this season; keeping things tight when they were looking for a top six spot and releasing the shackles somewhat during the second half of the campaign with mixed results, so one of the primary objectives during pre-season will be to get the balance right to ensure they can hit the ground running next time around.

While a very talented bunch, the squad also lacks some strength-in-depth and this will also need to be addressed, while they will also be aiming to keep hold of star names including James Joyce and Toby Jones following their immensely successful individual campaigns.

Williams and his assistant Matty Williams, who has proved to be a vital asset in the closing stages of the season, are a highly ambitious duo with good connections within the game, and their knowledge in both coaching and recruitment will determine just how far they can go in their first full season.

They are much better than a third-from-bottom WPL side, and I would be surprised if there fortunes did not improve dramatically next season.
