FORMER Llandudno star James Joyce is set to go on trial at a Football League club.

The gifted full-back, who recently announced his departure from the Giant Hospitaliy Stadium, will look to earn a professional contract at SkyBet League Two side Crewe Alexandra as he looks to progress his career to the next level.

Joyce is a former Tranmere Rovers youth product that played a starring role in Tudno’s rise to prominence, which earned him the reputation as one of the most talented young players operating within the region.

This included a prominent role in Tudno’s Huws Gray Alliance season, which was swiftly followed by a third place finish in their first JD Welsh Premier League campaign and a Europa League appearance.

He was an ever-present for both Alan Morgan and Iwan Williams last season but felt the time was right to move on following an extremely successful spell that has benefitted all parties involved.

The full-back has been strongly linked with a move to Colwyn Bay, where he would link up once again with Morgan and assistant Craig Hogg.

The Bay coach said that Joyce is “on their radar” and wished him well with his upcoming trial, with the Seagulls in negotiations with a number of potential new faces as they look to soften the blow of recent departures of Jack Hindle and top scorer Astley Mulholland.

Hogg, said: “James Joyce would be on the radar for any club, and we know first-hand the quality he possesses as he played an important role in the success brought to his last club some three years ago.

“He has a trial with a football league club coming up in the summer and we wish him well with that.”
