A LLANDUDNO netballer has been awarded a Sixth Form sports scholarship to Rydal Penrhos.

Nia Humphreys will join the school from September after impressing during the application process, and she will be following in the footsteps of brother Euan who was part of the Rugby Academy programme which is run in partnership with RGC and the WRU.

The 16-year-old has enjoyed a glittering young career to date with Llandudno and Pwllheli, and has also represented North West Wales County She said: “My brother went there and thoroughly enjoyed himself, in fact I'd say he thrived at Rydal Penrhos so naturally I want the same for me.

“But it’s more than that, probably it is the history of the school. Every time I have visited, seeing my brother, or playing sport or through the applications process it’s just felt the right fit of school for me and one I think best suits to set me up to be my best future me.”

Nia was also selected to the Welsh Netball Performance Pathway that aims to produce future players who progress into the World Class performance programme, and was one of the youngest players to join the North West Wales Development Training Centre in 2014.

“My sporting ambitions are to progress in Netball to Welsh Netball Performance Training Centre - PTC level of play and of course dream of making the Welsh Team,” she added.

“This will require me improving my overall strength and conditioning to take my fitness and competiveness up a level. This year I'm aiming to undertake coaching and umpiring qualifications so that I can contribute more to the sport."
