A TALENTED junior golfer has gained a series of significant honours from his regional club.

Charley Simpson, a Year 8 pupil at Rydal Penrhos School, has been appointed Junior Captain at Rhos on Sea Golf Club for the forthcoming season, which will see him lead the section during a busy series of competitions in the coming months.

He began his time in the role by taking part in Captains’ Drive, which officially brings in the newly appointed skippers across all categories at the club.

The 12-year-old was also one of the big winners at the club’s Presentation Evening, which saw Charley pick up a pair of accolades thanks to his consistent series of performances on the picturesque course throughout the year.

The sports scholar secured both the Junior Order of Merit and Junior Challenge Shield after producing a number of fine results to acquire the necessary points needed to claim the notable double.

He has achieved a host of regional and national successes in various competitions across the country, while his charity efforts in aid of BBC Children in Need have also brought plenty of plaudits his way in recent years.

Allen Boyd, director of sport at Rydal Penrhos, said: “Charley’s dedication to the sport of golf is bringing with it an enormous amount of success, which is testament to his passion and willingness to learn under the guidance of our Academy team.

“He is sure to thrive in his role as Junior Captain and it will provide another huge confidence boost for a pupil that has an enormous amount of potential to go very far indeed.”
