A COLWYN Bay golfer has earned another national selection for an upcoming competition.

Reuben Bather, a Year 10 pupil at Rydal Penrhos School, will be part of the Wales U16 side that will compete at the International Quadrangular tournament, which is being held in Holland from April 10-12.

The 14-year-old managed to secure his spot in the six-man squad after producing a fine effort during a selection weekend at Newport Golf Club earlier this month, where he shot a 75 gross in difficult conditions.

They will begin their event at the Golfclub De Hoge Kleij against Ireland following a practice day in both foursomes and singles competition, before taking on the Netherlands and Scotland over the remainder of what is expected to be a hotly contested tournament.

This is the latest in a long line of successes for the one-handicapper, who has come on a significant amount since joining Rydal Penrhos in 2016 and is junior captain at Maesdu Golf Club in Llandudno.

Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “This is another wonderful achievement for Reuben and one that he can be enormously proud of.

“We have worked hard with them on the strength and conditioning side within school, while he has also done some fantastic work with our Golf Academy programme under Ian Richardson.

“The quadrangular tournament will be another memorable experience and we wish Reuben and the Welsh team the very best of luck next month.”
