An exciting new-look route, which included the return of a Llandudno landmark, for the Wales Rally GB has been revealed.

Organisers held a launch in Llandudno on Monday, revealing four days of rally action through North and Mid Wales forests would come to a conclusion on the tarmac around the Great Orme and onto the streets of Llandudno.

This will be the first time ever the route has included the streets of Llandudno, thanks to new legislation passed by the Welsh Government earlier this year.

Tir Prince will once again hold the curtain raiser to the Wales Rally while Friday will see drivers taking on new challenges through Brenig, Alwen and Penmachno forests. Friday will also sees the introduction of a new double-header stage at Slate Mountain at The Slate Caverns, home to Zip World.

Saturday will move the battle-ground to mid Wales before Sunday seeing competitors return to North Wales with two forest tests in scenic Snowdonia.

This will pave the way for a thrilling finale on the streets of Llandudno. In the Visit Wales’ ‘Year of the Sea’, the crews will race around the iconic Great Orme and then onto the closed streets of Llandudno. The flying finish will be on the resort’s famous seafront – and the 2018 winner will be crowned on the Promenade.

Wales Rally GB managing director Ben Taylor said: "The spectacle we're going to bring to Llandudno this year, the Orme's an established Rally stage that's a normal thing, but to come off the Orme into the town and continue in front of the people, to make the spectacle that's going to be here, to create the atmosphere for the weekend that we're going to be able to put in here on that first weekend of October.

"To do it all for free for people, so we're not selling tickets, we're just asking people to come and have a look at this amazing sport, I think we're going to make tens of thousands of new fans, and I think its going to be the most amazing experience.

"Last year we had great weather, we had great crowds, we had a Welsh winner for the first time ever and you think how are you going to top that. But I'm really excited about this year.

"I can't wait for October."
