A COLWYN Bay weightlifting prodigy has been honing his skills with some of the best in the country ahead of a prestigious international competition next month.

Josh Lynch, a Year 9 pupil at Rydal Penrhos, will be part of the Team GB squad that will compete at the European Youth Weightlifting Championships later this year following a successful qualification process.

The 14-year-old sports scholar has been training relentlessly ahead of the biggest competition of his impressive young career to date under the guidance of Commonwealth Games athlete and coach Harry Misangyi and as part of the school’s sports scholarship programme.

He was also invited to take part in the Great British Training Camp over the half term break at Loughborough University with some of the best young prospects anywhere in the country after receiving an invitation from officials after earning his place on the squad.

Mr Misangyi stated that Josh is “training better and harder than ever” ahead of the international event, where he will be aiming to beat his personal best and possible add to the 14 national records he currently possesses.

In addition to his weightlifting exploits, Josh is a talented rugby player and is currently part of the Sale Sharks Player Development programme and captained RGC West last season.
