RGC women’s captain Rachel Taylor says this is “just the beginning” for the Gogs as they go in search of championships success.

Despite competing in the Regional Series for the first time, the female sensations have the opportunity to claim the crown when they take on Ospreys on Sunday, April 1 Sardis Road, Pontypridd (5pm).

This represents a significant achievement for the side, who have shown an enormous amount of potential in recent months thanks to the commitment shown by players and staff.

Taylor, who captained the Barbarians recently alongside Elen Evans recently, said: “Just to organise an RGC side this year that was able to commit to train and experience the regional programme would have been a massive success for us.

“We’ve managed to introduce a new experience of the next level up of rugby from domestic leagues with a wide range of players and from all over the region.

“When RGC Women’s was announced as a region and entered into the championship this season for me personally as a player it was long time coming and a dream that finally come true to be able to finally say I played for my home region.”

The Gogs have developed a mix of experience internationals such as Jess Kavanagh-Williams and Taylor, in addition to bringing through a number of talented youngsters like Gwenllian Prys who have become prominent figures within the set-up.

“To do all this and to be competitive has been a real bonus,” added Taylor.

“I think we’ve far exceeded our own expectations. The players are really focused on ensuring this is something that we grow and develop for the U18’s to progress into and the generations below them.

“From tiny acorns is our motto because we know we’re so new and still have so far to go.”
