A JUNIOR rugby sevens side kicked off the season in style with an impressive tournament victory.

Rydal Penrhos School’s U11 team travelled to St Mary’s Hall for a special festival with other sides from the North West, and the group turned in a number of eye-catching display to emerge with the overall title.

They began their campaign against Highfield and dominated proceedings throughout to secure a comfortable 5-0 success, and this was swiftly followed by a 5-1 triumph over St Mary’s Hall Green which booked their place in the final.

A collective effort from the side was the catalyst behind their narrow 2-1 win over St Mary’s Hall Red, which they secured in dramatic fashion thanks to a try courtesy of Ethan Akroyd in what turned out to be the final move of the match.

Another huge positive was the performance of Year 5 pupil Cieran Milligan, who demonstrated his immense talent throughout the three games, which was enough for him to be awarded the Player of the Festival honour from Head of Boys’ Games Jamie McLeod.

Deputy Head Alison Hind, said: “This was a magnificent performance and it will no doubt give our U11 side plenty of encouragement for the season ahead.

“They have really hit the ground running and congratulations to each of them on their wonderful efforts.”
