NANT Conwy advanced to the semi-finals of the North Wales Cup with a 23-13 victory at derby rivals Llandudno.

The WRU National League Division One North leaders emerged with bragging rights after a hotly contested tie, but the home side took the lead early on when Ryan Pike fired over a penalty on four minutes.

This sparked the visitors into life and they got their noses in-front for the first time on 18 minutes when Carwyn Ellis rounded off an impressive team move to cross the white wash, with Arthur Lennon adding the extras.

The flawless Pike reduced the arrears with his second free-kick of the contest on 24 minutes, and the hosts got finished the half strongly to go into the break ahead when a surging run from Dave Davies saw him touch down. Pike added the conversion to increase their advantage to six.

After the interval saw the away side come out with a renewed sense of purpose with Lennon despatching a penalty on 42 minutes, and the same player was on hand to send another three points through the upright on 62 to level matters.

Lennon’s outstanding day with the boot continued with yet another penalty on 72 minutes to put his side ahead, and they sealed a passage to the next stage of the competition on 80 when Gethin Vaughan powered over from close range. Lennon added the extras to round off the scoring with the last action of the tie.
