SOME of the best young Rugby Sevens talent from the region will be on show at a special competition this weekend.

Rydal Penrhos School will be hosting their annual U16 tournament on Saturday, March 3, which will feature 16 teams from North Wales and the North West looking to claim a variety of trophies.

Defending champions Nant Conwy will be looking to make it two triumphs in succession from the competition, and they have been drawn in Pool A alongside the fancied Llandovery College, St Edward’s College and St Mary’s College.

Ellesmere College were narrowly beaten in the final last year and take their place in Pool C with Birkenhead School, The Cathedral School, Llandaff and Stonyhurst College 2nds.

The hosts will compete against Merchant Taylor’s School, Rhyl Rugby Club and St Ambrose College in Pool B, while Manchester Grammar School, Oswestry School, Stonyhurst College 1sts and Ysgol Bro Dinefwr form Pool D.

Allen Boyd, director of sport at Rydal Penrhos, said: “This is the third year that we have hosted the RPS U16 7s, which is always a keenly contested affair and the upcoming competition promises to be no different.

“The Rugby 7s season is always an extremely busy time for us, and events like this are a great way for our young pupils to get extra experience in a competitive environment, while also highlighting our fantastic facilities.

“Hopefully it will be another fantastic tournament and I would like to thank those that have agreed to compete once again.”

There will be a weather update during the week with the recent snow in the Colwyn Bay area.
