NANT Conwy reached the semi-finals of the WRU National Plate with a stunning 23-22 victory over Maesteg Harlequins.

The WRU National League Division One North title favourites ended a 30-match unbeaten streak of the visitors in dramatic fashion to book their place in the final four.

Despite the eventual result, it was Quins that struck first when Rhodri Davies went over after just five minutes, but Nant hit back almost instantly when Carwyn ap Myrddin latched on to an Arthur Lennon kick to touch down. Lennon fired over the extras.

The away side restored their narrow advantage on 16 minutes when Davies fired over a penalty in fine style, and they extended their advantage shortly after when Lewis Tutt darted over the white wash on 18 for their second try of the tie. Davies added the conversion.

This provoked a strong response from the home side, who reduced the deficit with a pair of free-kicks from the assured boot of Lennon on 28 and 34 minutes, and the same player was on hand to drill over another penalty on 42 to put his side in the ascendancy.

After the break saw the visitors regain the lead in worsening conditions thanks to a penalty try following extensive pressure on the Nant try-line, but a stunning individual effort from Carwyn Roberts resulted in a try for the hosts on 63 minutes to pull them back within one.

Lennon showed nerves of steel to add the vital conversion, and they managed to see out the remainder of the contest to book their place in the final four.
