NANT Conwy exited the North Wales Senior Cup at the semi-final stage after a narrow 21-20 loss at Pwllheli.

The WRU National League Division One title favourites ended a sensational run of consecutive triumphs at the current champions, with the pair set to square-off once again on Saturday which could clinch the crown for the long-time leaders (2.30pm).

The home side got on the scoreboard early on when Osian Parry Jones fired over a penalty after just two minutes, and a tight first period was turned on its head when Nant broke clear and Gwynfor Morris powered over the line on 24.

Arthur Lennon added the extras, and the same player was on hand to extend their advantage with a free-kick of his own three minutes before the break.

After the interval saw the away side seize the initiative once again when a free-flowing move resulted in Ifan Jones crossing the white wash on 50 minutes, with Lennon despatching the conversion, but the hosts responded well and got back into the tie on 53 when Kevin Morris went over for their first score of the afternoon.

Parry Jones drilled over the extras to cut the lead to seven, and his penalty on the hour mark made it a four-point game heading into the final stages.

Pwll’ crucially got their noses in-front on 75 minutes when Robin Hughes Jones touched down after a period of pressure, but a Lennon penalty on 83 looked to have won the clash for Nant in the dying moments.

This was not to be for the visitors, as in the final phase of play Mathew Parry launched a drop goal effort straight to the posts to send the hosts through to the showcase.
