LLANDUDNO booked their place in the North Wales Plate final with a superb 27-12 win over Ruthin.

The WRU National League Division One North side have enjoyed a fantastic campaign to date and will now aim to claim some silverware for their efforts in the regional showcase.

The home side did not waste time in stamping their authority on proceedings and went ahead on ten minutes when a series of impressive phases resulted in centre Dave Davies going over for an unconverted score.

This seemed to wake the visitors up and they controlled possession for long spells thereafter, which resulted in them notching their first try of the contest on 25 minutes when Arwyn Davies touched down following a driving maul.

Ryan Pike made a telling contribution throughout the tie and he sent the hosts into the break with a slender advantage with his first penalty of the afternoon, and things got even better shortly after the interval when a powerful surge from the home pack saw Nick Irlam touch down from close range on 49 minutes.

Pike managed to add the extras, and yet more Llan pressure resulted in another Llan score which arrived through Byron Davies almost immediately following the restart.

Back came the away side with a renewed sense of purpose and they managed to get themselves back into the game midway through the period when Nathan Jones crossed the white wash for a try which he also converted.

That was as good as it got for Ruthin as the hosts saw out the contest with minimal fuss thanks to a pair of free-kicks from the flawless boot of Pike that confirmed their final berth.
