LLANDUDNO’s stunning run of WRU National League Division One North form came to an end after a narrow 17-15 home loss to title chasing Pwllheli.

The Goats were unable to hold on to a commanding lead at the break, and they were in rampant mood in the early stages but were unable to penetrate the formidable away rearguard despite creating a number of try scoring opportunities.

Their pressure finally told midway through the half when they were awarded a penalty try following an illegal interception by a Pwll’ player, and things got even better for the home side just before the break when a penalty was awarded to them under the posts, which Ryan Pike duly despatched.

After the interval saw the defending champions come out with a renewed sense of purpose, and they got themselves back into the contest thanks to a neat passage of play which resulted in Joh Pugh touching down. Osian Jones added the extras.

The visitors were now in the ascendancy and went ahead for the first time when a burst of pace from Matthew Parry saw him cross the white wash, with Jones once again successful with the conversion attempt.

Jones’ assured boot pulled the away side further clear shortly after when his well-struck penalty sailed through the upright, but a nervy ending to proceedings was assured when the Goats went over courtesy of Lewis Jones.

Pike was unable to tie things up and they were unable to add to their tally which ended their ten-game winning run, and they will look to put this setback behind them on Saturday during their trip to Caernarfon.
