LLANDUDNO fell narrowly short in their quest for the North Wales Senior Plate as they suffered a narrow 11-10 loss to Caernarfon.

The Goats put in a spirited display before eventually falling short by a solitary point at the hands of a determined Cofis’ side, who held firm in the closing stages to secure the coveted trophy.

A nervy opening to proceedings was contested evenly and brought little in the way of chances, but Dudno managed to break the deadlock after 25 minutes when Sam McClean went over for the try after a scintillating break from Rhys Henderson. Ryan Pike was successful with the conversion attempt.

This provoked a positive response from the Cofis, who got back into the game with a converted score of their own after they caught their opponents napping with a quickly taken penalty.

After the break saw a series of infringements halt the overall tempo of the final, with Caernarfon hitting two to Llandudno’s one throughout the second period to give them a slender advantage heading into the crucial final few minutes.

The Goats threw everything at their opponents in a late bid to win the tie, but they could not penetrate the resolute rearguard to ensure they fell at the final hurdle, and Dudno close out their season with a trip to newly crowned WRU National League Division One North champions Nant Conwy on Wednesday (7.30pm).
