ST ASAPH City achieved a place in the next round of the Mawddach Challenge Cup with a 6-3 triumph over Aberffraw.

The Saints managed to get on the scoresheet for the first time on 20 minutes when a neat passage of play resulted in Jake Walker finishing well.

Things got even better for the home side on 28 minutes when Jordan Owen found the net to double their tally, but they were pegged back shortly after when Nathan Moore reduced the arrears on 32.

This provoked a strong response from the hosts, who restored their two-goal cushion on 36 minutes courtesy of a John Terry effort, only for Andrew Jones to strike for the visitors one minute after the interval.

The talented Paul Fleming was on hand to add a fourth for City after another spell of dominance on 56 minutes, and this was swiftly followed by Owen’s second of the afternoon on 64 to seal the tie.

The in-form Owen was in ruthless form throughout and rounded off a superb day at the office with his hat-trick on 70 minutes, and despite Jones firing in his brace from the penalty spot on 78 minutes it was not enough to prevent the Saints was reaching the next round in comfortable fashion.

All other Lock Stock Welsh Alliance games from the region were postponed due to the adverse weather conditions.
