CONWY Borough reached the FAW Trophy final after a sensational 3-0 success over Penydarren BGC.

The Tangerines showed their class to emerge as comfortable winners against the JD Welsh Cup giant-killers, but attention turns to a crucial week for the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance side as they look to make an instant return to the second tier.

Wednesday sees Boro’ host Llanrug United before they travel to Pwllheli on Saturday.

Manager Gareth Thomas, said: “We are delighted with the result and performance. I can’t thank the staff and players enough.

“We have focused solely on this game this week and Alun’s (Winstanley) attention to detail was brilliant and set the players up really well for the game.

“The lads where outstanding but being a bit fussy we could have scored more goals but we are in the final and fully deserved the win.

“I’d like to thank the fans who travelled and the club for enabling us to prepare properly. Attention turns to Wednesday’s league game which is our main priority”.

Thomas’ side almost went ahead inside a minute when Jamie Roberts’ effort was ruled out for offside after good work from Tommy Creamer, but they did not have to wait long to strike the first blow which came on 14 minutes courtesy of a Cory Williams strike.

Things got even better soon after when the prolific Corrig McGonigle doubled their advantage with a thunderous 30-yard effort on 35 minutes, but they had to withstand heavy pressure following their second which they coped with superbly well.

After the break saw Boro’ finally seal their place in the final on 85 minutes when a quick breakaway involving Sion Hogan and Guto Hughes presented a chance to Dean Seager, and the striker made no mistake to complete the scoring.
