LLANRWST United mounted a stunning comeback to secure a thrilling 5-2 Mawddach Challenge Cup third round victory over Barmouth and Dyffryn United.

The Rwsters began the tie on the back foot and fell behind on eight minutes when Paul Lewis found the net, and things got even worse soon after when Adam Morris doubled their deficit on 25.

Sam Roberts got them back into the game in the closing stages when he reduced the arrears on 83 minutes, and Leighton Griffiths managed to take it into extra-time after levelling matters a minute from time.

It was one-way traffic in the additional 30 minutes as the hosts ran riot, with Callum Parry and Mark Owen finding the target in quick succession on 94 and 98 to put them in the ascendancy.

There was further cause for celebration on 110 minutes when Roberts notched his second of the afternoon to complete the scoring and send them through.

Also into the next round are Llandudno Albion, who produced another fine attacking effort in their 4-1 home win over St Asaph City.

Efforts from Harry Roberts and Dave Maddock put the hosts two-up within the opening 11 minutes, before Joel Lloyd converted from the spot to add to their tally a minute after the interval.

Jordan Owen gave the Saints a glimmer of hope when he finished well on 70 minutes, but their hopes were dashed soon after when Allan Davies restored Albion’s cushion and sent Paul Cheung’s side through.

Penmaenmawr Phoenix improved their Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two position with a 3-1 home triumph over Llannerchymedd.

The home side fell behind through a Richard Jones strike, but they recovered well and sealed three points thanks to a Lee Ellis brace and a solitary effort from Haydn Griffiths.
