OUTGOING Llandudno Albion manager Paul Cheung leaves behind a very strong legacy that the club can build on for years to come.

The young boss has decided to step down and take a more involved role behind the scenes, where his ambitions stretch to owning their own field in addition to improving the overall structure of the side at all levels.

His impact on football in the Llandudno area cannot be underestimated, and in particular his efforts with Albion, who have risen through the ranks of the Welsh football pyramid and now find themselves as one of the most high-profile sides operating within the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One.

Cheung has installed a young and confident squad with an incredible self-belief that has stood the test of time, and who knows what may have happened this year had they not been forced to play so many fixtures in such a short space of time late on due to the adverse weather conditions throughout the winter.

Signings such as Ricky Jones, David Maddock and Allan Davies are a testament to his pull as a manager and his knowledge of local talent in the area, and it says a lot about how much Cheung actually cares for the club when you see how much effort he has put in already by securing a replacement instantly to ensure continuity.

Darren Jones is a respected figure within the game in North Wales, and while three promotions and an NWCFA Junior Cup is an incredibly hard act to follow, the former Llandudno Junction man will undoubtedly have the best possible support system available to him during the transitional period to give him the best possible chance of carrying on the club’s thriving success since their inception.

Cheung’s relationship with JD Welsh Premier League side Llandudno has also been a huge contributing factor to their achievements, and it is imperative that this continued between Jones and Iwan Williams to give younger members of their Academy programme a chance to sample senior football for a side that tries to play the right way, something that is sure to stand them in good stead for the future.

Starting a new club is the most difficult of tasks, and it is a testament to Cheung that has not only done this extremely well, but he has also managed to steer the team to a trophy-laden spell that is sure to stand them in good stead in the future.

He is sure to have a greater impact on all-things related to the club in the future, but as he prepares to leave the dugout he can look back on his time at the helm with a great source of pride thanks in no small part to their meteoric rise to prominence.
