LLANBERIS have confirmed that Carwyn Jones will take over as first team manager next term.

The Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One side announced the move on Sunday, May 20, with the well-respected figure assuming the leadership role ahead of what is expected to be a busy summer at the club.

Jones has also confirmed that Aled Hughes will join the backroom staff in an assistant role, and the duo will be tasked with improving a talented young squad that performed above expectations in a highly competitive third tier.

The club recovered from a difficult start to the season to go on a lengthy unbeaten run that saw them emerge as surprise title challengers, but a disappointing run-in saw them lose ground to eventual champions Conwy Borough as they finished in a creditable fourth spot as a result of their efforts.

There is a solid foundation from which to build next term, and this was further demonstrated by Llanberis Reserves’ triumph in their League Cup final success over Llandudno Junction.

A cagey opening to proceedings saw both sides miss chances during the opening period of the tie, but Llan came out of the blocks flying after the break and opened the scoring on 55 minutes through Ifan Mansour.

This was swiftly followed by a second that arrived courtesy of Nidian Huws after 65 minutes, and they all-but sealed victory on 78 when another prolonged spell of possession saw Huw Barwick convert an opportunity.

The Railwaymen’s misery was compounded through an own goal five minutes from time as Llan got their hands on some silverware after a season of tremendous progression across all areas of the club.
