CONWY Camera Club’s series of summer workshops is opening up new opportunities for local photographers.

One of the workshops in June was an evening trip to Salford Quays to capture the low lighting as the sun set, followed by night photography as the buildings and structures were illuminated.

The 10 participants shared cars to travel to and from the area and were delighted with their images from the evening.

Laura Fretwell, who joined the club last September, said: “Knowing the potential dangers that a city can present, I would not want to venture to a location like this alone. Attending this workshop as part of a group made the evening feel safe, and allowed me to take some great images that I would not have been able to capture otherwise. I am very much looking forward to the next workshop.”

Martin Neale, who organises the club’s workshops, said: “Within our club we have a vast amount of knowledge and expertise covering all topics of photography, which is passed on to new and existing members through our workshops.

“Nothing gives us more pleasure than to have these skills passed down the line and then see the results achieved by individuals. No matter if you’re just starting out or already have some knowledge and want to improve your photography, we’re more than happy to help.”

The club will have another visit to Salford Quays on September 3. Its most recent workshop was at the riverside in Llanrwst, where 20 attendees experimented with photographing objects such as miniature figures and sparklers, with a view to creating photo collages.

Club activities in July include trips to the Trac Môn motor racing circuit and Parys Mountain, as well as a practical session on drone imaging with a professional photographer.

The club’s annual Conwy Photo Challenge will take place in August, when club members will receive a list of seven themes to photograph in the given order in Conwy town on the day, with prizes for the best entries.

Conwy Camera Club welcomes new members, from novices to experienced photographers.

Members currently range from 16 years and up.

The club’s new season of weekly Tuesday evening meetings resumes on September 5 but new members joining in the summer can take part in the workshops and other activities before then.
