A CONWY resident is heartbroken after her “sweet” cat was attacked and killed by dogs.

Annette Richardson, of Whinacres, lost her elderly cat Boots after he was killed by two dogs on Friday evening.

The male house-cat had been her pet for more than 20 years.

Mrs Richardson said: “He was a sweet thing. He would go in all the houses here, as cats do, and fall asleep. He was quite familiar - everybody knew him.”

The attack took place on Friday evening, while Mrs Richardson was out.

Neighbours spotted the dogs attacking Boots and rescued him, before taking him to the vets - but he died before he could be saved.

Mrs Richardson added: “I don’t know if the vet was just saying this to be kind to me, but he said that Boots wasn’t savaged. I think he’d had something like a heart attack.”

“I was very grateful to my neighbours - I don’t know how I would have dealt with it myself.

“You don’t expect this sort of thing to happen here, really.”

An RSPCA Cymru spokesperson said: “This was an appalling incident where a member of the public saw a cat being killed by two dogs.

“We would like to remind people that causing unnecessary suffering to an animal is an offence under the Animal Welfare Act 2006 and carries a maximum sentence of up to six months custody and/or a fine of up to £20,000.”

n Anyone with information relating to Boots’ death can contact the RPSCA inspector information line on 0300 123 8018. All calls will be treated in confidence.
