The owner of a jewellers shop has thanked the community for an outpouring of support after raiders armed with machetes targeted his business.

Police were called to Gregory’s Jewellers in Mostyn Street, Llandudno, at 2.23pm following the incident on Wednesday, November 30.

Owner Gregory, who started the business in 1983, said since the incident - which saw the loss of several thousands of pounds worth of stock - he and his staff have been inundated with good wishes and cards.

He said: "I wasn't here at the time but I saw the CCTV - three masked robbers came in holding machetes and iron bars. Three counters were smashed, glass sliding door windows were broken. The target was expensive watches and we lost jewellery too.

"Staff were terrified, but it could have been worse - nobody was hurt.

“We have had some incidents before but this was the most serious. Myself and my staff would like to thank everyone who has come in with cards and biscuits and good wishes to show support - we are very grateful for that."

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Inspector Chris Bell at St Asaph CID said enquiries indicated offenders left the scene in a grey BMW which resulted in the recovery of a 5 series BMW in an alleyway close to Ysgol Dyffryn off Trinity Avenue in Llandudno.

When renewing the appeal for information the day after the robbery, DI Bell said: “The registration displayed on the car, which was recently stolen,  is FE54 UGL and I am keen to hear from anyone who may have seen this vehicle and its occupants at any time but particularly when it was apparently abandoned between 2.25pm and 3.10pm.

"Fortunately no-one was injured, but this was clearly a very distressing incident for staff and the public and therefore any information will be eagerly received.”

A spokesperson for North Wales Police confirmed no arrests have yet been made and the investigation is ongoing.
