A TEENAGER has won a top national award for his voluntary work as a football and multisport activities coach
Harri Lloyd Williams, a year 10 pupil at Ysgol y Creuddyn in Penrhyn Bay, has received a Diana Award for his work with children and young people at the special school, Ysgol y Gogarth, in Craig-y-Don, Llandudno over the past year.
The award is a charity legacy to Diana, Princess of Wales’ belief that young people have the power to change the world for the better and aims to inspire and recognise social action in them.
Harri, 15, said: “It’s a privilege to volunteer at Ysgol y Gogarth.
“They’re a great group and the work is very rewarding.
“Seeing the pupils develop their skills always put a smile on my face.
“I’m very grateful to Ms Nicola Davies and other members of staff at Ysgol y Gogarth for this opportunity.”
Conwy Youth Service Healthy Image Project worker Chris Gledhill nominated Harri.
He said: “This is a fantastic achievement for Harri and one he greatly deserves for all his hard work, dedication and commitment.”
Harri was the first young volunteer to be shortlisted for the award through Conwy Youth Service, as well as the first pupil from Ysgol y Creuddyn.
He was also recently shortlisted for a Conwy Sports Award in the young volunteer category.
Ysgol y Creuddyn headteacher Trefor Jones said: “Harri is a credit to our school and was already an award winner in our eyes.
“We’re extremely proud that the excellent work Harri carries out voluntarily with children with disabilities at Ysgol y Gogarth has been recognised nationally.”
