Strong winds and high tides have caused severe damage to the Old Colwyn coastal defences.
Part of the fence and pavement along the Old Colwyn promenade, down from Rotary Way, have been ripped up and left lying on the rocks on the beach resulting in the closure of the area on Friday.
The damaged area was fenced off to protect the general public and Conwy County Borough Council (CCBC) engineers attended the site to access the damage.
A CCBC spokesman said: "High tides and strong north westerly winds during the last 24 hours have caused damage to the coastal defences along the Old Colwyn frontage.
"The affected area has been cordoned off and made safe to the public.
"A detailed structural inspection of the defences was scheduled to be carried out on Monday and an assessment made to determine the extent of remedial works required.
"The promenade will remain closed until further notice."
The Pioneer contacted CCBC on Tuesday, but no update was available, on the damage.
This damage comes just weeks after Clwyd West AM Darren Millar described Old Colwyn's flood defences were "in desperate need of an upgrade" and invited Environment Minister Hannah Blythyn to inspect the damage.
Minister Blythyn has accepted the offer, but a date to inspect the defences is yet to be set.
