ELECTRICAL retailer Maplin announced on February 28 that it was going into administration, putting local jobs at risk.
Maplin has 2,335 employees and 217 stores across the UK and Ireland, with shops in Llandudno and Wrexham.
It is understood that the retailer's high street chains have been affected by lower consumer spending, higher inflation and competition from online rivals.
Negotiations over the sale of the retailer were ongoing but had broken down last week before Maplin was forced to enter administration.
PwC has been assigned as Maplin's administrator for negotiations over the sale of the retailer.
Zelf Hussain, PwC partner, said: “Maplin has been hit hard by a slowdown in consumer spending and more expensive imports as the pound has weakened.
"We will continue to trade the business as normal whilst a buyer is sought.
“Staff will continue to be paid for future work while the company is in administration.”
