Llandudno tourists could get a taste of the Far East if plans to change Conwy’s taxi rules get the go ahead.

An application by Andrew Murgatroyd for a hackney carriage licence to run a rickshaw service in Llandudno was rejected by licensing officers.

The application was rejected on the grounds that the rickshaw would not qualify for such a licence under the current rules.

But councillors meeting on Monday will consider rule changes to allow rickshaw to be given Hackney Carriage licenses.

Mr Murgatroyd said: “It was just one of those light bulb moments when I thought of it. I had been looking at ideas for a tourism business in Llandudno and it just came to me. The idea is to offer ddifferent route, one of which will be a guided tour of the town and the others will be for pleasure.

"The rickshaw is electrically aided but even then I don’t think it will be up for going up the Orme.

” Pleasure trips would be offered on West Shore and North Shore as well as circular tour of the town. It’s planned that the costs of the North Shore pleasure tour will be £15 for a twenty minute trip.

"The West Shore trip would last 30 minutes and cost £20, while the guided tour would be for an hour and cost £40."
