A DOUBLE bill of avant garde rock promises to showcase the most exciting and eclectic bands in North Wales this weekend.

Linking up at the Blue Bell, Conwy, the accomplished Terry and the Supercools will share the stage with Nico’s Mind this Saturday.

Four-piece Terry and the Supercools are rocking up to Conwy ahead of a busy schedule promoting their brand new single, The Drum, due to be released this August.

It is the culmination of honing their sound – the result of harmoniously combining influences including David Bowie, Frank Zappa and James Brown with more than a hint of Kate Bush’s most exquisite moments.

One of the hardest working bands in North Wales, Terry and the Supercools have consistently rewarded the faithful with their unique and unforgettable groove-laden sets, spanning the whole spectrum from ethereal, spaced-out melodies to upbeat funk.

Supporting them will be Meurig Roberts, who formerly played with Terry and the Supercools drummer Nick Carter in the now-defunct punk outfit Ugly Fashion.

The Llandudno musician’s latest project, Nico’s Mind, is a one-man-band, which blends Ugly Fashion numbers with a new style and new songs using loop pedals – and even a violin bow on heavily distorted guitars.

Influenced by the ambient soundscapes of post rock titans Sigur Ros infused with some of the harder moments of noise rock pioneers Sonic Youth to Sigur Ros and the pure punk of Ugly Fashion, Roberts’ captivating new direction is one to watch. Saturday’s gig starts at 8pm. Admission is free.
